By: Greg Salyers

Half Mountain Speedway located 9 miles south of Salyersville on route 7 finally was not bothered by
weather and completed the program last Saturday night. Out of the 12 late models that were in attendance,
Eddie Carrier Jr set fast time in the #1 Miller Bros. Coal Rocket/Cropper Monte Carlo, The Leburn, Ky native
turned a lap of 17.02 seconds, averaging 84.606 MPH. Chuckie May, no. 28 was second fast with a lap of
17.16 seconds, and third fast was #10 Paul Harris turning a lap of 17.28 seconds.

The first late model heat had Carrier, Harris, and Henry Hornsby battling for the win. Carrier started
first but Paul Harris was leading before the end of lap 1. Carrier then fought his way back into the lead
only to see Harris close back in and run side by side for the lead off of turn 4 on the final lap, with
Carrier coming out on top.

Late model heat number 2 seen Chuckie May in the #28 Miller Bros. Coal GRT/Custom Mustang run away with the
win, #17T Shannon Thornsberry was second, #33 Aaron Hatton was third, #17W Chris Wilson was fourth, fifth
was Billy Wooldrige #43, and 6th was #77 Randy Fields.

The 'Quick Six' race, a race for the fast 6 qualifiers with $200 going to the winner was won by #39 Henry
Hornsby from Beckley, WV.

The late model feature consisted of 25 laps and all 12 late model entries, Eddie Carrier jumped out to an
early lead until a spin in turn 2 by #17W Chris Wilson from Louisa, Ky brought out the yellow on lap 4. The
restart had Carrier out front, May second, Harris third, Shannon Thornsberry 4th, and Hornsby rounding
out the top 5. Chuckie May brought out the second caution after spinning in turn 2, the incident also
involved Shannon Thornsberry and Henry Hornsby. They were all able to continue. May was sent to the back,
because HMS rules state that any car that brings out a caution and does not continue forward must
restart at the end of the field. May had made it back up to eighth on lap 7. On lap 8, the #59 of Michael
Wooldridge broke in turn 2 bringing out the 3rd yellow of the night. After that caution, Eddie Carrier was
clearly the class of the field, leaving Paul Harris, Henry Hornsby, and Shannon Thornsberry to battle for
the second position. On lap 18 #33 Aaron Hatton spun in turn 2, he was able to continue. The finish seen
Eddie Carrier Jr come out on top in his #1 Miller Bros. Coal Rocket/Cropper Monte Carlo, second was Paul
Harris out of Prestonsburg, Ky in the #10 Miller Bros.Coal/Twin Bridge Auto Parts Warrior/Custom Mustang.
Third was Henry Hornsby in the #39 Timberwolf GRT Monte Carlo, fourth was #17T Shannon Thornsberry in
the Miller Bros. Rocket Monte Carlo. Chucky May made it back up to fifth in the #28 Miller Bros. Coal GRT
